Dates & Diaries » Burton, 21 & 22 June 08 Diaries

June has been an interesting month. We started by chatting about vision, purpose and reason. God brought us to a place of re-evaluating everything we did and why we did it. As the month draws slowly to a closed, we have been reminded why we are in this band: To play songs and music that open up a way for people to touch the very throne of God. We had become distracted by looking for some grand new design. But it was very simple all along: just play and minister.

So, what happened over the weekend that reminded us so vividly? Simply put, God's goodness. We were invited to visit Riverside Church in Burton to spend the weekend worshipping with the Church. Saturday night was to be an open session; Sunday morning was part of the Church service.

We arrived in the town after a good journey that involved coffee (now there's a surprise) and snacks. On arrival we were greeted by our good friend Steve, whom we have known from some years. Steve used to be part of the fellowship in Worksop, whom we have served many times over the years. The church was a lovely, old, high-ceiling building with great acoustics. After setting up and soundchecking, it was off to our hosts house - Liam and Becky - for dinner. L&B looked after us so well and we are deeply grateful for their love, support and food!

Saturday evening was a great time of worship. Most of our practice nights in June were spent either trying out new songs or playing songs that we felt God was prompting us to do. We were surprised by what was pulled out of the bag and the evening was no exception. Highlight of the night was the quiet, contemplative part of the evening and finishing with a deeply moving version of HALLELUJAH (from TRUTH), which we have not played live for a few years.

Sunday morning was also a great time of worship. We opened with what turned out to be a five-song medley as we moved through different songs and themes. It is always a lot of fun for us when we get the chance to string songs together or even mix them up a bit. Thanks to Rob Stiles for a great word on the power of words and how they steer our lives.

After we finished in Burton, we whizzed back to a local town to play a short acoustic set for a local radio station, again in a lovely Church building. The life this bands is certainly never boring. Perhaps God used the weekend to remind us that we do this for him and will keep on doing it until he says "Stop!". Starting to feel like (again) that is not going to be some time soon....

Thanks to Steve, Daryl, Becky, Liam and everyone else who supported us right through the weekend. We are looking forward to visiting Burton again.
